Learn the basics of starting a home-based, “cottage foods” business in Alaska. Hour one of the class includes an introduction to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Cottage Foods regulations and “non-potentially-hazardous” food preservation methods including dehydration, fermentation, pickling, and boiling water-bath canning. Hour two is for Q & A and specific questions from participants about their existing or potential food businesses.

The instructor is Sarah Lewis, AIA, MSW, the Health, Family, and Community Development Agent for the Juneau District of the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service.
