Country Gravy with Alaska Barley
Alaska Flour Company barley is grown in Delta Junction and will darken the gravy, adding depth of flavor.
Course Breakfast, Main Course
Servings 6 -8, depending on how drenched you like your biscuits.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground sausage
- ½ cup butter
- 2/3 cup barley flour
- 1–2 cups milk
- ½ capful liquid smoke (optional)
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the sausage and reserve the drippings. Remove sausage and set aside. Turn down to medium heat and add butter. Once butter melts, add flour and stir until darkened to a roux. Slowly add milk and whisk. Decrease milk for a thicker gravy; increase for thinner. Whisk continually on medium heat for five minutes, or until gravy thickens. Add pepper and liquid smoke. Stir sausage back in.
