Granny's Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Eleanor “Granny” Claus adapted this classic recipe for chocolate cookies to meet the needs of hungry backcountry adventurers. The oats give these cookies staying power and keep them moist. Don’t eat too many unless you’ve got a calorie burning hike planned!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cup flour, scant
  • 2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream butter and sugars, add eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. Add the dry ingredients and the chocolate chips and stir to combine. Scoop onto a greased or parchmentlined cookie sheet. Bake at 350° F for 9-12 minutes.
