Rob Roy Cocktail

This one features the Yukon’s favorite single malt, Two Brewers Whisky, the 42nd and 43rd iterations of which were released this December. So far it’s only available in Canada, so when you’re next passing through Whitehorse, be sure to try some.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Two Brewers Whisky, any iteration (Editors’ note: if you can’t source Two Brewers from the Yukon, substitute Amalga Distillery’s Solstice Solera or your favorite single malt)
  • ¾ ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Free Pour Jenny’s Solstice Bitters Amarena cherries in syrup, or homemade Bourbon Cherries (recipe above)

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients except cherry in a mixing glass with ice, stir several times. Strain into a coupe, or serve over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with cherry.

In our local supermarket the only frozen cherries available are the dark, sweet variety, and they are darned good soaked in bourbon. But not as good as sour cherries. In Haines, sour cherries grow in abundance. One year we knocked on a random door and asked if we could pick some cherries from the trees in the yard. The householder said, “Weeelll, how much were you thinking?” We answered, “A couple of pints, maybe?” “Oh, hell yeah, fill your boots,” was the reply. Yet another reason we love Haines.
