Located on the second floor, in the heart of Alyeska Resort, the just opened GREATLAND Bar & Lounge is a tribute to the spirit of Alaska—the “Great Land.” Its name reflects both the state’s expansive beauty and the resort’s namesake, Alyeska, derived from the Aleut word meaning “great land.”

Taste GREATLAND at Home This cocktail, straight off the new menu at GREATLAND, was born like many Alaskans’ ideas: in the warmth of Hawai‘ i, where so many of us go to thaw, reset, and get inspired before returning north. Paniolo’s Last Ride is named for the Hawaiian cowboy, but its heart lies in the return. It’s about coming home carrying the memory of sunshine and spice, and about stepping back into the quiet wild with something new to share.

At its core, this drink is cowboy coffee, elevated… bridging the gap between a trail-brewed cup and a modern espresso martini, with the fire and richness of Mexican hot chocolate woven in. Spiced cacao liqueur infused with cayenne, cinnamon, and nutmeg brings warmth and heat. Locally roasted espresso adds depth and drive. Wild-foraged chaga tea grounds it in the Alaska forest. Mushroom-infused Charanda, a sugarcane spirit from Michoacán, connecting the cocktail to the wild, earthy flavors of the North.

At GREATLAND, it’s topped with a chocolate-dipped dried mushroom: a crisp, savory totem from the forest. More than just a garnish, it’s a reminder of where this drink comes from and the unexpected beauty found in the quiet details.

• 1 ounce Sol Tarasco Charanda Añejo
• 1 ounce spice-infused cacao liqueur (see bit.ly/cacao-liqueur for recipe)
• ¾ ounce Fika Solstice Blend espresso
• 1½ ounces strong-brewed chaga tea

Instructions

 

• Fill your shaker with cracked ice. More ice, more action. Shake it like a cowboy chasing his hat in a windstorm. Then double-strain into your favorite cup and top with a chocolate-dipped dried mushroom.
