Tusk Mangalitsa
Tusk Farm was born from a commitment to quality local food. Growing our Mangalitsa herd is an investment in sustainable agriculture for Alaska.
Mangalitsa is an old-world European lard breed known for tender, savory meat, and delicious high-quality fat. Founded in 2021, Tusk Farm operates a breeding program devoted to preserving the limited blonde Mangalitsa lines imported into North America. We strive for maximal health of our animals through careful documentation of lineage and mindful breeding practices.
This unique, cold-hardy breed is well suited for our northern climate. The pigs at Tusk Farm live exclusively outdoors in small family groups from birth to slaughter in the boreal forest of the Tanana Valley. Mangalitsa are a slow growing breed; our animals are raised for at least 14-18 months. We source all our feed locally, feeding mostly barley grown in Delta Junction.
