The Schedule

Saturday, September 16, 2023: All day farm tour and onsite farm-to-fork dinner in Homer.
Sunday, September 17 through Wednesday, September 20, 2023: Retreat at Tutka Bay Lodge.

Join chefs and food writers Kirsten Dixon and Mandy Dixon, authors of the book, Living Within the Wild: Personal Stories and Beloved Recipes from Alaska, for an unforgettable excursion with Edible Alaska in and around Kachemak Bay and Tutka Bay, Alaska.

Your escape takes you to the tip of the Kenai Peninsula in the fishing community of Homer, 225 miles south of Anchorage. On Saturday, you’ll participate in farm and producer tours, an onsite farm-to-fork meal, and more.

The next morning, a scenic trip by water taxi will transport you across Kachemak Bay. The boat approach affords views of shore and water birds, and the possibility to see sea otters, orcas, humpbacks, and other marine mammals. Staff at the renowned Tutka Bay Lodge will welcome you to immerse in the wild and cultivated foods of Alaska for a three-night retreat.

Set in a remote fjord with wild mountains, secluded beaches, old growth forest, and dramatic tidal fluctuations, the lodge has been recognized as a Fodor’s 100 Hotel Awards winner in the Trip of a Lifetime category. Guests will enjoy the full-service accommodation and renowned cuisine provided by the staff of Within The Wild, and a variety of program options with our retreat leaders, including a food writing workshop, cooking demonstrations and classes, foraging and naturalist walks, and more.

The schedule allows time for reflection and recreation in the form of beach walks and forest hikes, or you can simply relax on the spacious oceanside deck or take an invigorating sauna.

The Dining Experience
Guests at Tutka Bay Lodge receive three full meals a day prepared by talented chef teams sourcing ingredients as nearby as the lodge’s garden and grounds, and including wild salmon, wild mushrooms, reindeer tenderloin, and more. Dinner always begins with appetizers.
