A Hollis Farewell
Dear Reader,
For five years, S. Hollis Mickey’s column “Culinaria Obscura” connected contemporary foodways in Alaska to their histories and contexts, drawing on archival materials, historical documents, and the voices of community experts who have gathered deep knowledge through experience.
Our last issue included the final piece in the series. Hollis and we here at Edible Alaska are grateful to her readers over the years, and to the Anchorage Museum for their longtime support of the column.
Due to the ongoing, disabling impacts of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), Hollis is unable to continue writing for us. We will miss her quarterly essays and her #hollisobscuredbyfruitsandvegetables headshot variations. Hollis is a dear friend who has profoundly shaped this magazine. Please see the archive of her many articles and recipes on our website.

Thank you,
Jeremy & Amy
