Miranda Weiss is a science and nature writer and the author of Tide, Feather, Snow: A Life in Alaska, which was a bestseller in the Pa- cific Northwest. Her weekly column on The American Scholar website is about life in and around Homer. Her work has also appeared in The Washington Post, The Economist, Alaska Dispatch News and elsewhere. She lives with her family in Homer.
