A warm welcome awaits you inside Cafe Khao Neow, a new restaurant in Wasilla that spreads the joy of authentic Laotian food within its Alaska community. Khao neow means sticky rice in the Lao language, and this wonderfully textured starch serves as the base to every Laotian meal. The cafe is known for generous portion sizes and fresh herbs and vegetables which, along with special sauces based on family recipes, elevate familiar ingredients to delicious heights. Spring rolls, fried rice, salads, noodles, and soups round out an impressive array of entrees and vegetarian-friendly menu options.

Owners Phongsay Luangsaysana and Paylin Duangpaseuth were navigating their first year of operation when the pandemic struck, and they had to get creative to sustain their business. They connected with their local community through Facebook groups, stayed up to date on local and state mandates, and sought out ways to stay connected to customers and community. They attribute their ability to remain in business to listening to their customers and creating business practices that kept both guests and staff safe. Phongsay and Paylin express deep gratitude for the kind words and positive feedback they continue to receive about Cafe Khao Neow’s restaurant space and meals.

Recently, as restrictions loosened, Cafe Khao Neow reopened its dining room, and the owners look forward to participating in community events. Phongsay and Paylin are proud that the cafe is a new local favorite and they stand ready to serve delicious, traditional Laotian cuisine to new and returning guests as their one-year anniversary approaches this fall.

To enjoy their famous sticky rice, be prepared to #bringyourhands. Cafe Khao Neow is located in the Creekside Plaza at 1830 E. Parks Highway, Suite A-131 in Wasilla. Dine in or place your order for pick up or delivery at cafekhaoneow.com
