Before his untimely death in 2014, Davon Mosley encouraged his mother-in-law-to-be, Khanesia Allen, to take her skill and passion for cooking and create her own business.

Allen launched Davons’ Place House of Soul to do just that. Davons’ Place is one of the featured dining options at Gathering AK, a café that offers meals from a different chef each day of the week in the Anchorage re:MADE building. Davons’ Place grew quickly with help from her church, the Alaska SBDC, and the Anchorage To-Go Facebook page that gained an almost cult-like following when COVID-19 hit. The wave of local support allowed Davons’ Place to meet demand while doing what she loves to do: cook for others. She even offers a free meal to frontline workers on Thursdays.

Allen has created a flavorful menu of catfish, fried shrimp, crab legs, and impressive lobster tails. Warm cornbread, mac and cheese, and potato salad complement mouthwatering options like loaded potatoes, collard greens, and wings. A refreshing drink and sweet dessert complete the experience at Davons’ Place. Peppered with praise such as “divine,” “delicious,” and “authentic,” from Alaskans and southern visitors alike, it comes as no surprise that Allen has made her entrepreneurial dream come true and is fulfilling her wish of keeping Davon’s name alive.

Davons’ Place House of Soul is located at 13500 Old Seward Hwy in Anchorage; place an order over the phone at (907) 267-9325 for homemade soul food delivered or available for pick-up. Learn more and connect online at https://www.anchoragesoulfood.com/
