“Good food & good people,” says one of many passionate online reviewers of J&W’s Fast Food in Wrangell. Their burgers take center stage—they are handmade with 100% ground beef, and customers notice the difference. “The attention they've given to using quality ground beef to hand press their patties will make your tummy sing,” says another customer in their online review.

Joshua and Clarissa Young, owners of J&W’s Fast Food, are stepping up and delivering in more ways than one. As the pandemic became an Alaska reality, the Youngs quickly developed an online ordering system, and they offer curbside pick-up and in-town delivery options, with delivery fees waived for customers who are quarantined or house-bound.

Along with managing the extra work and uncertainty of serving the burgers, fries, and more that their customers love during the COVID crisis, the Youngs have found ways to stay connected to Wrangell’s tight-knit community. Last spring, J&W’s partnered with the Wrangell school district once they moved to remote learning to provide school lunch options to students. The restaurant regularly hosts benefit days that have raised more than $10,000 for people in need. Recently, they brought the community together for a fundraiser—while physically distanced—to support a local resident battling cancer.

Joshua says, “People here care deeply for their neighbors and the community as a whole and make it a point of pride to never pass up on the opportunity to help one another. It is because of this that in times of strife we have been able to use our storefront as a vehicle for fundraising.” The Youngs love to be part of a giving community and to reciprocate the support they feel from their broad range of customers.

J&W’s is located at 120 Front St in Wrangell, Alaska. Place an order at 907-874-2120 or find them on Facebook and at https://thedropzoneburger.com/
