Ingredients

  • 1½ cups cranberry juice, unsweetened
  • 1 mandarin orange, cut into slices
  • 3 whole star anise pods
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 4 ounces bourbon (try Port Chilkoot Distillery’s)
  • Mandarin quarters, for garnish
  • Star anise, for garnish

Preparation

Combine cranberry juice, orange, star anise, and maple syrup in a small pot. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, until flavors have blended.

For each serving, pour 1 ounce bourbon into the bottom of a glass or cup, add 3 ounces cranberry mixture, and garnish with a slice of orange and star anise. (Rinse and dry the star anise and use again in a cooked dish.) Double or triple the recipe as needed.
