Addie Camp, named after a mining camp in South Dakota, opened in December 2018, and features fresh, locally-sourced ingredients year-round, including produce from the onsite hydroponic farm. Farmers Markets

Alaska Farmers Market Association

Website

Alaska Farmers Market Association supports and promotes vibrant and sustainable farmers markets throughout Alaska. Farmers markets have experienced a renaissance throughout the nation, and have begun to spring up all over Alaska. While our short growing season and cold climate offers many challenges to our farmers, farmers markets are thriving across the state. In 2005, the Division of Agriculture listed 13 markets throughout Alaska. In 2014, that number grew to 37, and in 2019, there were 50 with more in planning stages.

Farmers markets are good for farmers and good for the communities they serve. For farmers, farmers markets provide a place to reconnect with consumers and capture retail dollars for their fresh, high-quality products. For communities, farmers markets are family-friendly, community-building events that bring neighbors together, attract retail activity to surrounding businesses, create forums for civic education and involvement, and provide direct access to Alaska’s agricultural bounty.

Farmers markets are adapting to social distancing mandates, including special shopping times for seniors and at risk populations. Check individual market listings for more information.

Alaska Wild Harvest

Website

When Dulce and Michael East started Kahiltna Birchworks—their birch syrup business—30 years ago, they had no syrup making experience, just a desire to live on their homestead in the Alaskan wilderness and make a living off the land. Surrounded by birch trees in Alaska's boreal forest, it made sense to tap into this abundant resource. It was a steep learning curve, but the Easts have successfully pioneered the birch syrup industry in Alaska and beyond and are currently the world's largest birch syrup producer.

The Easts now tap 10,000 trees near Talkeetna and purchase sap, berries, and chaga from local collectors. You can visit their production facility and tasting room seasonally, conveniently located one mile off the Parks Highway at mile 1.1  Talkeetna Spur Road. They offer a fun and educational tour of the facility revealing the joys and difficulties of a short and intense harvest. Taste how birch syrup changes through the harvest. Try birch syrup and berry products in the tasting room, and shop for Alaska food and botanical products along with a fine selection of functional art. Please check for dates and times this summer as things are still a bit uncertain.

Alaska Wild Harvest is a true "goods from the woods" Alaska cottage industry and they emphasize sustainable use of Alaska's forest resources. Good stewardship and conservation of our forests is essential to the health of our people and the fragile ecosystems in which we hunt, fish, and gather. Come share the Alaska Wild Harvest vision.

Amalga Distillery

Website

A Spirit Most Adventurous
Amalga Distillery is Juneau's first distillery. Located in historic Downtown Juneau, the tasting room is the still house, offering visitors the unique opportunity to sit down with a cocktail next to the still where the spirits were produced. Amalga's still is a 250 gallon pot still from Vendome Copper and Brass out of Kentucky—they've been making stills longer than anyone else in the US, and this one is custom built for Amalga Distillery. Their gin features an array of botanicals with a base distilled from Alaska Grain. They bottle it at 48% ABV—a more robust gin than most. This gin is built to stand out in cocktails. This gin is made in small batches, and each batch will change slightly. In addition to the tasting room, you can enjoy Amalga gin at quality bars throughout the state, and can purchase their spirits by the bottle at select liqour stores.
